Banh Tet festival in HCM City
01:12' 12/02/2010 (GMT+7)

VietNamNet Bridge – The final round of the “Banh Tet festival” took place at the Dam Sen Park on February 10, with 24 teams representing HCM City’s 24 districts.

The teams competed in two categories: making traditional banh tet (cylindric glutinous rice cake for Tet holiday in the south) and non-traditional banh tet (depending on the creativeness of cake-makers).

Competitors used greenbeans, glutinous rice and pork to make traditional cakes while non-traditional cakes were made with both traditional materials and others, such as banana, duck egg and Chinese sausage. Rice was died by different kinds of leaves, for example cam leaves for violet, pineapple for green, and some kind of fruit for red colour.

Contestants from Cu Chi and Hoc Mon districts were the winners. They will make special banh tet to offer to the ancestors at the Hung Kings’ Temple in District 9, the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Ton Duc Thang Museum on February 12.

Contestants made 2010 pairs of banh tet as gifts for orphans in the city.
